Congratulation to Neve who has now passed her final hairdressing exam, Neve achieved a distinction in her final practical exam- well done. Neve will now become a stylist in our salon from mid-November. She is looking forward to welcoming her guest to the salon. Neve enjoys all aspect of her hairdressing, especially long hair.

Over the last 15 years we have become more and more aware of ingredients in our haircare ranges, and the ones that have potential damage to us. It started with sulphates in our shampoos , then moved onto parabens which are preservatives in our products and recently we found that vegan products seem to be the safest products. We have carried out lots of research on different ingredients, and their potential to harm you and our team, that are exposed to them 10 hours a day. So over the next few years we are going to stop using harmful artificial perfumes/fragrance in every thing we do in the salon. Its important to us that our team are safe and also our clients, companies do not need to publish what chemicals go into their perfumes and for that reason we will be using no perfume or natural perfume products.
We have invested in a new coffee machine which turns coffee beans into beautiful fresh coffeee. This machine also creates amazing hot chocolate. Thisservice is included into your hair service. We have also updated our mineral water service; this available as a free top up service
Hair and scalp impurities are generally styling products residue and build up. Additionally to this however, hair absorbs minerals like copper, iron, magnesium and chlorine from water and Air. This can result in hair looking dull or even change colour of lighter shades. This SIM treatment will remove all minerals from your hair.

Designed for people suffering with oily scalp and sensitive scalp, We start by using Shale oil shampoo which will cleanse and help balance the sebaceous gland. Keeps scalp moisture balanced. We then then apply scalp tonic as a leave in, which helps combat oily build up and improves microcirculation of the scalp. Then we finish with Chitosan Hair Repair to rebuild and repair hair damages and split ends.
Sensido Simplex bonder revives even the most damaged hair into beautiful, shiny and strong hair. The product will repair existing damage to both the hair internally and externally. The treatment will also help with colour endurance. It’s a two part treatment that is carried out at the styling section. We then finish with a hair condition to seal and moisture the hair.
Because we want all our regular guest to look their best all year round, we offer a in-between cut and blowdry free fringe trim service. This is a no appointment service, just walk in and wait for the next available stylist.But we have had some confusion concerning this service, so here we go; this is available only to regular guest of mavericks that have their hair cut and blow-dried every 6 to 9 weeks. The service is only available free between this time. The free fringe trim, is a trim, anymore than 10mm off is not a trim and will need a full paying fringe service. We have had a lot of no shows over the winter period, so to safe guard our teams salaries and our business, we have adopted a new cancellation policy. If an appointment is not cancelled with 48 hours’ notice of the appointment time. We will then charge £10 for each treatment missed. This policy covers both hair and beauty treatments and is £10 per treatment so if you are booked in for a colour, cut and blow-dry that is two treatments so £20. Please be aware that this policy gives us 48 hours’ notice to rebook the appointment time, we have found that without 48 hours the appointment tends to not be taken. Please help us.
As you are all fully aware, our costs have been going up and up, we have made allowance for this, whilst maintaining our high standards of hair, beauty and customer service. But over the last few month, we have been hit by an increasing number of guests not arriving for their appointments, this gives us a loss in turnover,, as we still need to pay stylist wages when guest do not arrive. So as of February, we need to take control of this, and like most businesses that operate a appointment system for example restaurants, we will be introducing a deposit system on all appointments of £10 per appointment. Appointments can still be changed as long as we have 48 hours notice. If you change your appointment without 48 hours notice, or forget your appointment then you will loose your deposit.

We prefer to work on freshly washed hair so that we can we get the best results, and a neater more precise haircut. It’s not possible to achieve this when the hair has already dried into a shape, and we can’t offer you a seven-day guarantee, but we can cut hair dry if you wish.
The first initial hair cut is on clean shampooed hair to remove any length and to create shape, the second part of the hair cut is done on dry hair, and this is when we personalise the cut. We do this by using advanced cutting techniques to remove weight and softening the ends with serration. This is an important part of the cut where we make sure the cut fits your face shape, hair type and take into account any growth patterns that can course issues.
We are fully aware that some guest want to come into the salon and spend their time with us peacefully, or perhaps they need to work. As from Mid November Kyra will be helping Neve in the blow-dry bar, congratulation to Kyra on passing all her training with Sarah on blowdrys. She is looking forward to creating some beautiful blowdrys. The blow-dry bar gives our team valuable experience and allows us to offer our guests a lower cost blow dry at £14.95. This service has been extremely popular and unfortunately, we have struggled to fulfil this service for our regular loyal guests. PERFUME, WHATS GOING ON?
A lot of guests have asked us for more information concerning Mavericks going towards a perfume free environment for the both the team and guests. So with that in mind I have taken information from the internet, to try to explain our decision to moved to less perfume. I hope you find this interesting.
reading the long list of ingredients on the back of your favourite hair products may have you questioning ; what is actually in my hair care products? Unfortunately, certain oils, parabens, and the most common synthetic fragrances are often hidden behind fancy names that can be hard to detect.
Fact is, more than 50 percent of all Hair and skin-care products contain fragrances with a lack of description for these chemicals. They are typically found in items that we use routinely such as soap, lotion, makeup, serums, perfumes, and face cream. In hair products, fragrance is often included to provide a recognizable scent for brands labelled as phthalates and tend to be hidden in hairspray, shampoos, and conditioners. Most cosmetics with fragrance are considered safe to use; however, according to the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) , health concerns that can potentially stem from the 3,000 ingredients used in products that contain fragrance include allergies and toxicity, particularly for people withsensitive skin.
We found that it can take over a 100 different chemicals to make a fragrance, Then companies often hide these chemicals under the word perfume or fragrance in their ingredient listing, which they are allowed to do, to stop competitors from
copying they fragrance ! We have no idea what they are using ?
Because of those underlying concerns, using fragrance-free products can prevent redness, rashes, or any sort of skin reaction. Still, there’s a grey area between the terms “fragrance-free” and “unscented” in beauty products, and the distinction between the two isn’t always so clear-cut on an ingredients label.
Why Fragrance-Free?
Fragrance-free products are a necessity for people with a fragrance sensitivity. Even if you do not have a sensitivity, choosing fragrance-free products can help those with sensitivities limit their exposure. Over 50% of the general population prefer workplaces, healthcare facilities, hotels, and airplanes to be fragrance-free.
Fragrance-free products offer the same functionality as fragranced products but without the potential health and environmental concerns. Emissions from fragranced products can negatively impact outdoor and indoor air quality and human health for at-risk populations.
One out of three people in the United States experiences respiratory difficulties and migraines after exposure to fragranced products. Fragrances are also one of the most common causes of contact dermatitis.
One study looked at 174 best-selling moisturizers sold on Amazon. Researchers found that 45% of products labelled”fragrance-free” contained fragrance.
Interestingly, no law requires companies to disclose individual ingredients that make up a fragrance.
What is smell?
It’s an interesting question, that some of our team have asked. Smell is, as we know one of our senses, and our smell receptors are connected directly to our brains. It’s part of our fight or flight decision making. Imagine walking through the dark woods (1000 year ago) a tiger is in the woods, your would not see it, you do not want to touch it ! but hopefully you would smell it- and then run !!. We also use smell to check food quality, it’s even believed that we choose our partners through smell!
As smell is important and emotional to us, nowadays product designers use this to mask their product ingredients and attract us. They even know that we get use to smells, we go nose blind, so they increase the perfume in products.
